GP2025 Preparation

A multi-stakeholder consultative approach will guide the focus and content of GP2025

As part of its continued commitment to ensuring an inclusive and multi-stakeholder approach to convening Global Platforms, UNDRR has carried out consultations and dialogues with Member States, the UN System and other stakeholders on the thematic focus and substantive aspects of the Global Platform. As a first step in this process, UNDRR conducted a 6-week online survey in February 2024, asking all stakeholders for feedback on the draft GP2025 concept note and thematic areas. The survey results informed the development of the GP2025 concept note and helped define the topics to be covered in the official sessions.

FROM REGIONAL TO GLOBAL

Regional Platforms for Disaster Risk Reduction

Regional Platforms are recognized by the United Nations General Assembly Resolution A/RES/69/283 (on the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction) as critical processes and mechanisms to monitor progress in its implementation at the regional level. The Sendai Framework acknowledges Regional Platform as playing an instrumental role in the development of national disaster risk reduction policies and strategies and the advancement of related knowledge and mutual learning in each region, and to support the substantive preparatory process leading up to the discussions at the Global Platform.

Efforts are being made to enhance coherence and alignment across Regional and Global Platforms in terms of objectives, structure and agenda setting. As common principles, the 2024 Regional Platforms will build on the priorities highlighted in the Political Declaration of the Midterm review of the Sendai Framework and will provide concrete recommendations and good practices to accelerate Sendai Framework's implementation by 2030. They will also aim at building coherence between DRR, sustainable development and climate change towards the achievement of risk-informed development and the SDGs at national and local levels by 2030 and will support the implementation of the Early-Warning For All initiative (EW4All) launched by the UN Secretary-General in 2022.

The organization of the 2023/2024 Regional Platforms and the 2025 Global Platform benefit from a mutually-aligned multi-stakeholder approach with the engagement and contribution from governments, stakeholder groups, the private sector, civil society in both the preparatory processes for the Platforms and at the Platforms’ discussions.
