Beyond “Bali Agenda for Resilience” 2022: Positioning Youth and Local Knowledge at the Heart of Sustainable Resilience
The side event "Beyond ‘Bali Agenda for Resilience’ 2022: Positioning Youth and Local Knowledge at the Heart of Sustainable Resilience" aims to accelerate the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) by emphasizing the pivotal roles of youth and local knowledge as the frontline in resilience-building efforts. The need for innovative and sustainable DRR strategies has never been more urgent in a world grappling with escalating climate risks and deepening socio-economic disparities. As agents of change, youth bring fresh perspectives, innovations, and dynamic energy. Local knowledge—rooted in generations of community experience—offers time-tested strategies that enhance early warning systems and ensure DRR initiatives are context-specific and sustainable.
Aligned with the Bali Agenda for Resilience, this session emphasises local ownership and intergenerational collaboration to build long-term resilience beyond the 2030 agenda and ensure adaptability to emerging risks. By bridging youth innovation with local knowledge, the event seeks to cultivate long-term resilience that transcends the 2030 agenda, ensuring adaptability to emerging risks.
Recognising that sustainable resilience requires integrating DRR with climate change adaptation and sustainable development, this event promotes community-driven strategies that link local wisdom with global frameworks. Supporting the GP2025 cross-cutting theme "Accelerate Action for Our Collective Sustainable Future," it highlights intergenerational knowledge exchange as key to sustainable, forward-looking resilience strategies.
The session will gather diverse stakeholders, including youth groups, research and training organizations, women as well as community representatives from Asia and Pacific, fostering dialogue and amplifying underrepresented voices. Participants will gain practical insights for scaling and replicating youth-driven and locally rooted DRR initiatives by sharing best practices, case studies, and innovative tools. The event will emphasize actionable strategies and empower participants to implement these approaches in their respective communities.
Ultimately, this side event seeks to inspire concrete actions that advance sustainable resilience by positioning youth and local knowledge at the core of DRR efforts, contributing to equitable and sustainable development at local, regional, and global levels.
