GP2025 Opening Ceremony
The Opening Ceremony marks the start of the official programme of the eighth session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2025), convened by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and hosted by the Government of Switzerland from 2 to 6 June 2025 in Geneva.
As the recognized global forum for reviewing progress on the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030, the Global Platform brings together governments, the United Nations system, and a wide range of stakeholders to share knowledge, assess emerging trends, and recommend concrete actions for risk reduction. GP2025 will build on the outcomes of the Sendai Framework Midterm Review, with a focus on accelerating risk-informed action across all sectors and communities.
Through high-level statements and cultural interludes, the Opening Ceremony will highlight the critical importance of disaster risk reduction in addressing the complex challenges of today’s world — from climate emergencies to rapid urbanization and geopolitical crises. The session will welcome participants from across the globe, setting the stage for an inclusive and action-oriented week of dialogue, partnership, and commitment toward a safer and more resilient future for all.
