This thematic session focuses on integrating resilience into disaster recovery to reduce vulnerabilities and prevent the recreation of risks. While many countries have embraced more advanced recovery approaches that improve systems, policies and infrastructure beyond pre-disaster levels, consistent application remains a challenge. The discussion will highlight recent progress, examine persistent barriers such as insufficient resources and limited institutional capacity, and propose practical strategies to strengthen recovery readiness. The session aims to accelerate progress towards risk-informed, people-centred recovery, aligned with the Sendai Framework’s 2030 goals.
