This learning lab reemphasizes the importance of better disaster data and statistics to enable better action. Building on the launch of the new Disaster Tracking System and the feedback and experiences of the pilot countries rollout. It will feature an introduction to the enhanced Disaster Tracking System and how interested countries can utilize for strengthening their capacities to track hazardous events and their impacts and utilize information on losses and damages to understand how to prevent and minimize disaster impacts, identifying, designing and implementing effective measures to minimize, avert and address losses and damages.
The learning lab intends to:
- Spark interest of countries in establishing or enhancing Disaster Tracking System to better monitor losses and damages triggered by hazardous vents and utilize the data to derive insights for risk reduction
- Raise awareness and promote the use across data users and producers across governments and stakeholders in countries through peer learning exchange
- Mobilize, engage and connect relevant experts and stakeholders to build the basis for a scientific committee to engage in continuing advancing understanding of losses and damages and support data producers, users and stakeholders to apply data for action.
Main target audience:
- Technical-level officials engaged with disaster-related statistics & DRR policy; non-government stakeholders engaged in DRR and climate action.
- Data officers and statisticians at National Statistics offices and sector departments and NDMAs, UN-partners engaged in supporting humanitarian and post-disaster need assessments.
