Practical learning for Early Warning Systems: Scaling towards a Multi-Hazard Early Warning approach with accessible and adapted technologies. Experiences and insights from the Andean Region

The Learning Lab is an interactive space where participants will actively engage with major challenges in Early Warning and Anticipatory Action.

Drawing from regional initiatives in Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador – implemented by Practical Action and the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre, with support from Swiss Agency for Development and the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance – participants will explore practical approaches and locally adapted systems through real-case experiences, and they will gain insights to enhance Anticipatory Action in their own contexts:

  1. From Single-Hazard EWS to Multi-Hazard Anticipatory Action
  2. Accessible Technologies for Inclusive Monitoring and Forecasting
  3. Enabling Governance and Legal Frameworks for Scalable, Institutionalize Anticipatory Action

Main target audience:

  • Decision-makers and professionals in risk management from national, subnational, and local governments
  • Researchers and practitioners from scientific and technical institutions, meteorological services, and research centers
  • Practitioners from development and humanitarian NGOs with initiatives in risk management
  • Community leaders and resilience network leaders
