Intergovernmental Cooperation to scale up Anticipatory Action

This event will accelerate the implementation of the Sendai Framework by emphasizing the role of Anticipatory Action (AA) in Disaster Risk Management (DRM), directly supporting its four core pillars. AA is key for providing timely, cost-effective support to communities facing impending hazards, yet requires stronger government leadership to ensure sustainability.

The event will consist of two main segments:

  1. A high-level launch of the initiative on Inter-governmental Cooperation (IGO) to scale up Anticipatory Action (AA). This includes the launch of an agreed ‘Pathway’ towards strengthened cross-regional collaboration on AA to enable governments to take early, decisive measures that reduce disaster risks and build long-term resilience. (30 minutes)
  2. An open exchange among government representatives about good practices, lessons learned, and challenges faced for mainstreaming AA within national policies, legislative frameworks, and financing instruments.This segment will allow governments to learn from each other’s experiences, and to lay the ground for stronger IGO cooperation along the agreed Pathway (60 minutes).

Main target audience:

  • Inter-governmental organizations (ASEAN; IGAD; SADC; League of Arab States; CEPREDENAC; CDEMA; CILSS; CAN/CAPRADE, among others) and their member states;
  • Anticipatory action practitioners.
