Local public services and urban resilience: Science-based participatory approaches for inclusive risk-sensitive planning

This interactive Learning Lab will withdraw lessons of 2 core processes UCLG has been partnering in, namely the Tomorrow’s Cities Hub and its science-based approach to participatory risk-sensitive urban planning, and the Climate Resilient and Inclusive Cities program led by UCLG ASPAC.

Harnessing the power of interdisciplinarity and participatory methodologies, local and regional governments can foster the collaboration between scientists, engineers, politicians, economists, private sector groups and, critically, representatives of the urban citizens who live in the cities in order to better understand risks and how planning decisions, public services and local policies can strengthen urban resilience and reduce disaster risks.

Main target audience:

  • Local and regional government practitioners, urban planners, DRR experts, scientists and academics, civil society representatives
