TS4: Restoring Livelihood: Solutions for Disaster-Induced displacement and resilient recovery

Disaster-induced displacement disrupts livelihoods, social networks, and economic systems—leaving affected populations vulnerable to long-term instability. Displaced individuals often lose income sources and market access, while also facing heightened risks of secondary displacement. Sustainable recovery requires tailored livelihood restoration strategies that integrate both immediate income support and long-term resilience building.

Session objectives:

  1. Impacts: Challenges faced by IDPs and host communities in rural-urban displacement contexts, and the types of livelihood support needed.
  2. Livelihood restoration in recovery plans: How to prioritize and integrate livelihood recovery into broader disaster recovery and displacement strategies.
  3. Inclusive & integrated policy frameworks: National and local policy progress, gaps, and strategies for incorporating livelihoods into displacement, recovery, and DRM frameworks—while applying a prevention and risk-informed lens.
  4. Partnerships: Examples of collaboration among private sector actors, local authorities, NGOs, and community groups to support IDP livelihoods.
  5. Technology and innovation: The role of digital tools, market access platforms, and mobile-based training in enhancing long-term livelihood recovery.
