Innovation Platform 2022

The Innovation Platform at the 2022 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction builds on the first Innovation Platform of 2019.

Innovation Platform 2022 will provide opportunities for learning and support the application of new knowledge and approaches in DRR. The 2019 Innovation Platform featured exhibitions from 24 different organizations with 14 additional events and helped generate a great deal of dynamism and creativity during the Global Platform and beyond. With the application of a potential virtual/hybrid treatment, IP2022 aims to go even further, providing a truly democratized manifestation of innovation in risk reduction and resilience.

Innovation at the Global Platform 2022 will be achieved through a series of activities that include the Innovation Platform itself, an exhibit, a public performance, and trainings.

The Innovation objectives of the Global Platform

  • Create an environment that stimulates awareness-raising, behavior change and shared learning
  • Provide opportunities for experiential learning
  • Motivate the application of new knowledge and approaches in DRR, with the emphasis on the development and use of more effective products, processes, services, technologies, and business models
  • Ensure inter-disciplinary cross-fertilization of ideas, and to reach out beyond the more specialized DRR community so that new partnerships can evolve
  • Showcase new ways to develop cost-effective DRR interventions
  • Suggest new ideas to implement and advance the Sendai Framework
