MSP3: Investments in reducing risk and building resilience to accelerate progress in sustainable development

This plenary will focus on assessing progress in implementing Priority 3 of the Sendai Framework for DRR, building on the findings and recommendations from the Midterm Review. The session will serve as a platform for Governments and stakeholders to report progress on scaling up financing for DRR including through innovative financing mechanisms and strategies, and examples of localized financing solutions. Perspectives on the potential of emerging technologies to enhance the efficiency, transparency and impact of DRR financing will also be elicited.

Guiding Questions 

Delegations are requested to focus their 3-minute intervention in the multistakeholder plenary on the following questions.

1. What innovative financing mechanisms or strategies are being utilized by your government, institution or organization to address the current gaps in disaster risk reduction funding and ensure sustainable investments in resilience?
2. Please highlight a success case of multi-stakeholder collaboration (such as private sector actors, international stakeholders, and local or national actors) that your government or institution has engaged in, which helped to significantly increase investments in DRR. Please highlight, in particular, what factors led to a successful collaboration, and the quantifiable impact it ultimately had on communities.
3. How is your government or institution ensuring DRR investments and their results reach the local and/or community level? What mechanisms have proven effective in ensuring that DRR financing is utilized in a way that takes into account the needs, perspectives and ideas of community members?
4. In your context or sector, what specific potential do you see of using emerging technologies in enhancing the efficiency, transparency, and impact of DRR financing? Please outline briefly the main tenets of your short- or medium-term plans to harness this potential.
