ONRN was launched in May 2012, after major catastrophes experienced in 2010. It is a public private agreement between the French State, represented by the ministry of ecology, sustainable development and energy (Directorate General for Major Risks), CCR and Mission Risques Naturels (representing the French direct insurance companies’ trade associations, FFSA and GEMA). This national partnership has already entered into a development phase of project partnerships, with regional observatories, such as the Regional Observatory of Major Hazards in the Provence, Alpes, Côte d'Azur Region (ORRM-PACA), the Institute for Spatial and Urban Planning of Ile de France Regioin (IAU IdF). The ONRN provides a large variety of input data and support material for decision making in DRR participative governance processes.
ONRN offers to all end users categories an open source portal to share natural risk data on the French territories, especially indicators at municipality grid about asset exposure, insured losses and progress of public risk reduction procedures and programs.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
